HOUSE OF FANFIC REVIEW Review of "Cat Woman and Dog Man" by Donnilee Review by Maidenjedi Rating: 7 of 10 While Donnilee continues to deliver the very hottest smut left in XF fandom, this fic left me feeling as though I'd just taken a cold shower. The title tips the reader off right away - this is going to be Doggett/Reyes. In the header, Donnilee confirms it, saying this is a post-ep story for "Audrey Pauley". At first, it even seems like this will really deal with the issues the episode presented. But Donnilee's Monica is a cookie-cutter; there's nothing here to distinguish her as herself. The timid uncertainty that Donnilee hints at is shattered by the leap into hot NC-17 action. There is no chance for these characters to be more than sex objects. Doggett is a little tighter, his dialogue in character if sketchy. Of course, that might have been the point. There is no denying that Donnilee's writing is solid, and she leaves no detail uncovered. However, this story isn't for anyone looking for deeper insight into the Doggett/Reyes relationship. I'd love to know why sex has to be the thing that makes Doggett and Reyes "not Mulder and Scully". It seems to me that that issue could be explored and make for an even better story. Overall, I give this fic 7 of 10. Donnilee's smut remains top shelf, even when the characters are mere shadows of themselves.
